Code: Windows® 11 IoT Enterprise (ESD)

Windows 11 IoT Enterprise is an operating system designed for specialized, fixed-purpose devices. It is suitable for industrial computers, self-service terminals, medical equipment, POS terminals, and other IoT solutions.

    Manufacturer
  • Windows 11 IoT Enterprise is a full version of the Windows 11 Enterprise operating system. The term ESD (Electronic Software Delivery) refers to the method of license distribution—it is a digital license key that provides immediate access to the software without the need for physical packaging.

The core of the system is identical to the standard Windows 11 Enterprise; it supports all standard Windows applications (Win32, UWP) and utilizes the same management tools, while offering specific advantages regarding licensing and system administration.

Key benefits of Windows 11 IoT Enterprise (ESD):

    • Long-term support (in the LTSC version). By choosing the LTSC (Long-Term Servicing Channel) branch, the operating system receives up to 10 years of official Microsoft support (including security patches and critical updates). This ensures device stability, as there is no requirement to install major operating system updates on an annual basis.
    • Maximum stability without unwanted features. This version comes pre-configured without "consumer" software (bloatware)—it excludes the Microsoft Store, the Xbox app, Cortana, and promotional game links. The system receives only security updates, eliminating the risk that a new Windows feature might disrupt the operation of specialized industrial equipment.
    • Strict system lockdown (Lockdown Features). The system includes integrated tools designed for device security and management:
      • Kiosk Mode (Assigned Access): Allows the device to be restricted so that the user can see and use only one specific application (e.g., a self-service terminal interface).
      • Unified Write Filter (UWF): Protects the system drive from any changes. Upon restarting the device, all user-made changes, downloaded files, or viruses simply disappear, and the system reverts to its original state.
      • Unbranded Boot: Allows for the hiding of Windows logos or loading screens, replacing them with the company’s own branding.
    • Lower hardware requirements. Unlike the standard Windows 11 Pro, the IoT version features more flexible requirements. In certain configurations, the TPM 2.0 module and Secure Boot are optional (not mandatory), and the system itself consumes less RAM and disk space, allowing it to run smoothly even on older or less powerful industrial hardware.
